How Geothermal Works

As the seasons move from spring to winter, temperature fluctuates throughout the year. Some climates can range from blazing summers to cold winters; Panama City included. Did you know there is a fairly constant temperature, regardless of climate or season, just below the ground?

The Earth's crust absorbs 47% of the sun's heat (energy) and is sustained in the ground a few feet under the surface. WaterFurnace geothermal systems extract this free resource with an earth loop. This innovative technology recovers the sun's heat providing your home or office with central heating and cooling.

Geothermal Heating

In the heating cycle, a WaterFurnace geothermal heat pump utilizes the earth loop system to extract the heat from the ground. With delivery through a classic duct system, the geothermal system draws heat from the loops and circulates it as warm air. Other choices are available to use that same heat energy to provide hot water heating and radiant floor heat.

Geothermal Cooling

The heating process is reversed in the cooling mode - creating cold, conditioned air all through the home. Instead of pulling heat from the ground, heat is taken from the air in your home and either moved back into the earth loop, or used to preheat the water in your hot water tank.
